Department of African Studies University of Delhi

70th Foundation Day (Platinum Jubilee) Celebration of Department of African Studies, University of Delhi
Seventy years ago, in independent India’s first decade, the University of Delhi made a bold and lasting commitment. It established the Department of African Studies, a space for academic engagement with a continent that would grow to shape the world. On 6 August 2025, we mark that commitment. The Foundation Day celebration will be held at Sir Shankar Lal Concert Hall, bringing together those who have shaped, studied, and stood with this department across generations. We are privileged to welcome H.E. Mr. Ermindo Augusto Ferreira, High Commissioner of Mozambique to India and Dean of African Missions, as the Chief Guest. H.E. Ms. K. Nandini Singla, Director General of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, will deliver the Foundation Day Lecture. This is not only an anniversary. It is a moment to reaffirm the intellectual and diplomatic partnership between India and Africa. A partnership rooted in shared struggles and carried forward through scholarship, dialogue, and trust.
