Delhi University, NCHHD Sign Pact for Cooperation in Research

The University of Delhi and the National Council for Handloom and Handicraft Development (NCHHD) Delhi have signed an agreement to promote cooperation in the research activities in the area of trade and commerce, textile and cotton industries among the African countries. The agreement was signed on August 28.

Yogesh Singh, the vice chancellor, along with Vikas Gupta, the registrar, Gajendra Singh, the head of the Department of African Studies in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Delhi, and V P Thakur, the executive director of NCHHD, attended the event, along with Surendra Kumar and Pardeep Yadav, project officers at NCHHD.As per the university, this collaboration aims to enhance the livelihoods of artisans in the handicrafts sector in both India and South Africa. The University, in partnership with NCHHD, will conduct a comprehensive study of the handicrafts industry, including the socio-economic status, challenges, and issues faced by local artisans. Based on this research, they will formulate marketing strategies and undertake initiatives for the preservation, protection, and promotion of traditional art and craft in both countries, as outlined by DU.
